Previously we’ve seen the sea and land of Ixalan, but this time we’ll go deeper, and see what lurks beneath the surface.

Similarly to the Eldraine set, we’ll also explore a new locations. However, it’s changed since The Immortal Sun is no longer there. We’re going to explore Ixalan, once again. The fourth Standard set of 2023 is another return. We’ll probably also get some of the missing references about fairy-tales, and hopefully no planeswalkers as broken as Oko, Thief of Crowns. This time around, we’ll go into the Wilds, which is bound to be more dangerous, but hopefully also even more exciting. With the first Eldraine set, most of the focus was on the Realm part of the Eldraine. Wilds of EldraineĪfter a bunch of sets focused on the Phyrexian conflict, we’re getting a break from all that, as we return to the fairy-tale world of Eldraine. The set will be followed by the March of the Machine: Aftermath, a special set in which we’ll see what the world looks like after this epic battle, which will fundamentally change the fabric of the Multiverse. Will it be the end of Phyrexians once and for all? We’ll have to wait a while longer before we find out. The following is a list of preconstructed theme decks, sorted by product group and then chronologically.So, this set wraps the Phyrexian story with a big finale.

These contain a set of 41 predetermined cards and a booster pack from the respective expansion. Beginning with Shards of Alara in 2008 these were replaced by Intro Packs. The themes in these decks can also be a quick way to get a feel for the overarching themes in a new set.īeginning with the Tempest set in 1997, Wizards of the Coast began producing 60-card theme decks (also called preconstructed decks).

Theme decks and intro packs are also well suited to be played against each other because they are usually similar in power level. Otherwise procuring enough cards to build a deck around a coherent theme often requires a significant investment. Players often buy preconstructed decks and swap out some of the weaker cards for more powerful ones, gradually improving their deck. Theme decks are also a means for newcomers to start the game with a deck instead of a random assortment of cards. These cards are supposed to complement each other well within a given theme. Magic: The Gathering theme decks are pre-built decks containing a fixed set of cards.
